Pallative Care Services
WHAT IS PALLIATIVE CARE?
Palliative Care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with life threatening illness; through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification, impeccable assessment and treatment of : Pain,Physical Problems,Psychosocial problems and Spiritual problems
WHO NEEDS PALLIATIVE CARE ?
Men, women or children suffering from life threatening illnesses can benefit
from Palliative Care. In particular, those suffering from AIDS and/or Cancer.
Patients with these conditions often have severe pain, both physical pain and psycho-spiritual pain.
Although their illness cannot be cured, there is much we can do to alleviate their pain, make them comfortable and allow them to live their last days in comfort and dignity.
This is also a tremendous help for their family members and caregivers who suffer themselves in seeing their loved ones suffering. Please visit the Palliative conditions photo Gallery
How do we care?
Kitovu Mobile Palliative Care cares for patients in their homes. We use oral medications including Morphine liquid to control pain and other medications to control other symptoms.
Our staff is specially trained in counseling and we spend time with patients
and family members helping them to understand their illness and to learn
to cope with their situation.
Many patients in the final stages of illness go from one hospital to another,
to traditional healers and to faith healers to no avail. Family resources
are used up and in the end the patient is no better off. We try to avoid
this situation
by establishing a supportive relationship with the patient and the family
early in the patients illness.
